Woke up at 3:30am to get an early start on our trek to Damascus. We packed and left Vandeventer Shelter a little after 4am.
We hiked a couple hours in the dark before stopping for breakfast before heading on.
After coming off a ridgeline, we crossed a cattle pasture listed as “active” in the guidebook. But it was empty and we walked through without trouble.
After the cow pasture, the trail took us back up to a ridgeline and would keep us there for the rest of the hike into Damascus.
The trail was really nice and gently sloped up and down all day.
We knocked out miles quickly all day, putting in 20 by 2pm.
Towards the end of the day, we put Tennessee behind us and entered Virginia.
Finally, around 6pm Damascus finally apeared. After walking into town, we ended the day with 33.2 miles, a new high score!
