This morning we woke up, ate, packed and made use of the “facilities” near the cabin before heading out on trail. Apparently, they built the outhouse two stories tall for the winter time when snow can drift more than 10 feet!
Despite the interesting name, we did not take the hole in the ground trail.
We hiked on passing through some high clearings with great views
Everyone else was taking water from this spring, so we passed it over.
Incredibly, there were still patches of snow laying around.
Just as the afternoon heat rose to its peak, the trail led us out into the open as we continued to climb higher.
It did give us some nice (and tortuous) views of a couple lakes down below though.
In the evening we descended into the relative cool shade of the pine trees before reaching our camp for the day. Another hot 20+ mile day in the books!
Good for you guys! Just because everyone else is drinking crystal clear water from a mountain spring doesn’t mean you should. The name is hilarious and so was your joke!
