We took care of a few town chores in Tahoe this morning including laundry and getting our food bags sorted and packed.
Then, we rented a couple Lime scooters and rode to the post office to mail a few pieces of gear home. The scooters were a little awkward with packs on but better than walking the two miles to the post office!
After the post office we rode up to Lake Tahoe to hit the beach. We took our sleeping pad into the water to try and find the source of a slow leak. It was pretty windy though, and we gave up after about an hour. The lake was really nice though. Several shades of blue as the water got deeper.
From there we hitched back to the trail with a very nice woman on her way out of town. We hiked around the outlet to Echo Lake before climbing up along the bank.
The trail was very rocky as we climbed up.
We passed into the Desolation wilderness in the evening
These two hikers had snowboards attached to their packs! They were heading up into the mountains to ride the last remaining bits of snow.
As the sun started to set, the mosquitos came out in droves! You can see a cloud of them in the picture below.
We made it to Aloha Lake and quickly set up our tent to escape the mosquitoes. Once the sun set, the majority of the bugs went away, and we were able to venture to the lake to filter our water for the night. It was very scenic in the dying sunlight.
If I were with you, you’d have been safe from any skeeters – they adore me! Amy, I’ll bet being on a scooter reminded you of days at UD with your Razor scooter to get to classes and to work!
The water is sooo still in the last 2 pics. Just stunning!
