Day 73 6/5/2021

by | Jun 15, 2021 | Pacific Crest Trail

It was a perfect, clear morning to hike through Tuolumne Meadows.

We saw a bunch of deer in the morning hours.

A short side trail led us to Soda Springs: a series of small carbonated mineral springs. We stopped for a quick drink. It was a little coppery but definitely carbonated.

We were a little worried about floating away after taking a sip and were ready to burp our way back down. But in the end it wasn’t necessary, and we hiked on deeper into Yosemite.

In the afternoon the trail led us along the Tuolumne River.

I couldn’t help but fish a couple of holes. I caught a few Rainbow Trout and a Brown Trout. The Brown Trout was my first in the Sierra section and completed my “Sierra Slam” landing four different species of Trout: Rainbow, Golden, Brook and Brown.

After putting the fly rod away we hiked past a couple powerful waterfalls.

When we stopped to take a break in the afternoon, I snapped this picture of Amy working on a blog post while sitting on a heart shaped log. Perfect seat for writing an update on the Roaming Romantics!

We hiked on into the evening passing through open sunny meadows surrounded by mountain peaks.

We nearly got turned around after a water crossing until we spotted this old trail marker hiding in the bark of a tree.

We arrived at our destination for the day, Miller Lake. Unfortunately, it was not “Miller Time” but we did pull out a little bottle and set our watches to Kentucky time for a bit!
