Day 70: 6/2/2021

by | Jun 15, 2021 | Pacific Crest Trail | 2 comments

We left Mammoth Lakes this morning via the trolley and hiked the Horseshoe Lake trail back to the PCT.

Near the PCT we walked by a pretty meadow.

A good stretch of the trail near Red’s Meadow Resort had been burned, but there at least were some interesting wildflowers.

We stopped by the San Joaquin River for a break, and Sean fished.

We hiked by Devil’s Postpile before passing Minaret Falls.

Around 5pm we heard thunder and decided to set up our tent at Soda Springs Campground. Looking forward to getting back on trail tomorrow!

Devil’s Postpile looks fascinating! I’d love to know how that was formed.

That sort of thing is from my understanding a volcanic formation! It’s a little magma bubble and when it cools, it hardens into pentagon shaped columns! And then the rock around it erodes away and leaves the columns behind! I saw them in Iceland and at devils tower!
