Today we left Mt. Laguna lodge around 9-9:30am. We meant to join up with the trail on the other side of town but ended up starting where we left the trail the other day around 41.5 miles. Through most of the day the trail was fairly flat, but there were beautiful views and a lizard!
We eventually saw some smoke in the distance and a helicopter! It turned out there was a prescribed burn near the PCT.
We took a break near a look out point and after lunch met two other hikers near the first water source of the day. We ended up hiking the rest of the afternoon with them. We eventually came upon our second and last water source of the day at Poineer Mail Picnic area. This was our water source.
We walked along ridgelines in the afternoon and saw memorials of deceased hikers by Kwaaymii Point. It was a beautiful spot.
We hiked a few more miles to our planned campsite for the night near Oriflamme Canyon. It’s a bit windy but gorgeous. We’re looking forward to what will hopefully be a glorious sunrise in the morning!
Wow!! What a gorgeous view!! Thanks for continuing to share your experiences! You both must be exhausted at the end of the day but I enjoy living vicariously through your journey. Happy trails! ?
It’s definitely easy to fall asleep at the end of the day! Thanks for following along!
Were the memorials for hikers who drank out of that water hole? That water looked nasty. Hope you have lots of iodine tablets or whatever you use these days.
The hikers must’ve died from drinking that murky water. Gross.
Did you actually take any water from that wonderful source?
We did! There was a faucet that poured (clean) spring water into it. Later on, we heard the spring ran dry and hikers did have to pull their water from the cistern and filter it
Omg ewwwwww you guys got lucky!
