Our 50th day on the PCT started off cold!
We woke up just before dawn to the sound of dozens of Swallows* flying under the foot bridge to deliver food to their nests.
* it was not clear whether they were African or European Swallows and we didn’t find any coconuts!
In the morning we climbed from our camp at 7,800ft to over 10,500ft and were treated to our first good look at snow covered peaks waiting for us in the distance.
We stopped for water around midday and spotted some ice and snow still lingering in the creek.
The afternoon was spent hiking back up to 10,600 ft. We passed through stands of big redwood and sequoia trees.
Some clouds looked like rain, but the wind was on our side. It missed us.
At the top we could see down to Owen’s Valley.
After 18 miles we made camp and settled in for a cold night. Our first night sleeping at over 10,000ft elevation.
Love the lighting of that photo looking down to Owens Valley! Sorry about that cold- Burr!!!
The pictures are totally otherworldly! Beautiful!
Thanks!
Loved the swallow reference. “You have to know these things when you’re king.”
