Today, we left Wrightwood around 8am. A trail angel gave us a hitch around the Bobcat Fire closure! However, the ride was over 2 hours long, so we didn’t start hiking until 10:30am. We knew we could camp earlier if needed, but we had planned 21.3 miles today!
The trail was fairly nice initially. After a few miles it contained more and more brush. Some of the brush made us slower.
However, we were determined to hike the mileage we planned and kept hiking until we encountered some trail magic at a picnic area around 5pm. We had some beer, soda, and snacks before hiking on to our planned campsite. Around 7pm we were hungry and stopped on a ridgeline for dinner. We also got to watch the sun set!
We then night-hiked the last few miles through LOTS of brush and thorny bushes to our planned campsite.
When we got to the campground where we planned to camp, we found it had burned down and no longer existed! We had bushwacked the last tenth of mile off trail through thorns to reach the campsite. I had been wearing pants, but Sean had worn shorts that day!
There was a dirt road with one spot for a tent. We set up our tent around 9:30pm and called it a night.
Sounds interesting
