Woke up at 4am to a bright full moon and a frosted tent. Fog had rolled down the mountain and coating everything in moisture. In the middle of the night, the temperature dropped below freezing and everything froze.
There was some frozen condensation on the inside of our tent and any time we moved, we got “snowed on”.
Around sunup we started hearing Turkeys gobbling in the distance. They got louder until it sounded like they were right outside the tent. We got out to look, but they had retreated to a stand of trees nearby.
Leaving camp we hiked up hill, climbing back into the mountains. Lake Morena stayed in sight most of the morning.
We climbed up and over the ridgeline, dropping down into a nearly dry wash with a little stream cutting through it.
The trail took us steadily up climbing along up the side of the ridge. It gave us great views of the desert in the distance.
Towards the end of the day, we stumbled upon an old target range. Brought back memories!
We finished the day at 12.6 miles, our longest day so far, as we continue to ease into the journey.
Following you from France. Great posts. Thank you.
Thanks for following!
Great stuff! Thanks for sharing your adventure!!!!
Thanks!
Like it when you post a photo of your tent at each camp. Adding rough (doen’t have to be exact) mileage to the camp sites will be a plus.
Thanks, we just started a tracking that on our phones and will try to add it to future posts
In the Army we sit on top of our helmet when we take a seat on unexploded ordnance. You marines are crazy!
I loving this, so inspirational, I am in Sweden planning for thruhike in 2023
Awesome! You’ll love it
