This morning we broke camp early to have breakfast in a picnic area. We then hiked to a seasonal stream about 5 miles away. However, we realized that we would be passing a McDonald’s in Cajon Pass, so we booked it to grab lunch there!
We were able to view Silverwood Lake, which we hiked past yesterday, for some miles.
This little snake was basking in the sun. He did not want to move, so we stepped around him.
We hiked a lot of ridgeline to get to Cajon Pass.
We finally got there around 1pm. We spent a few hours relaxing in the shade of McDonald’s with some other hikers. Tim, another thru-hiker, was nice enough to send me this photo he took of us. Thanks Tim!
In the late afternoon we decided to leave McDonald’s and hike the last few miles to Swarthout Canyon to camp. There was a water cache and wooden furniture!
All the little human interactions and caches along the way must give you more hope for humanity!
It really does help put some things in perspective. We’ve been blown away by all the friendly people on/around the trail and backpacking community.
