It was a chilly night camped at just under 8,000 feet. We woke up and quickly packed, so we could get the stove going for some hot coffee.
While we were cooking a Mountain Jay flew over to watch and occasionally chirped some friendly advice.
After breakfast we bundled up and hit the trail.
The morning started with a burned out section of the mountain.
Then we ran into some snow again. It was early in the day though, and the snow was mostly frozen making it easier to traverse.
In the afternoon we had a good view of Mission Creek and the canyon we hiked through the day before.
The the rest of the day was spent walking through stands of giant pine trees. We couldn’t get over how large the trees were and how high they stretched above the forest floor.
At the end of the day, we camped just off a ridgeline carefully staking out our tent as the wind picked up. It was our longest day yet: just under 20 miles!
Gorgeous vistas!
