Today we hiked across a flat desert plain towards I10, leaving the Snow covered peak of San Jacinto behind. Its hard to believe we were hiking through the snow just a couple days ago.
We hiked under I10 and found a water cache.
Then we hitched a ride to the Cabazon post office to ship our micro spikes further up trail. We hit a gas station for fried chicken, a dollar general to restock our supplies, and then hitched back to the trail.
We went back to the underpass and found trail magic! “Momma Bear” had set up camp chairs and brought all kinds of food and drinks for hikers.
We sat and chatted for a bit as more then more hikers hiked up, eager to get under the shade of the highway bridge.
Eventually, we had to get back on the trail and hike on.
We hiked through a wind farm and despite the warnings, came away unscathed.
The trail dropped down to and eventually crossed the Whitewater River.
From there, we snaked our way back into the hills, climbing to a ridgeline that would be our campsite for the night.
Along the way, we were treated to a fantastic sunset. The clouds seemed to catch fire in the dying sunlight.
