Today we left camp around 6:30am to hike past the snow while it was still frozen. We had a big day planned that included a descent over 6,500 feet. After a few miles we were able to view Mount San Jacinto, which we had summited yesterday, and the Mesa Wind Farm, where we were hiking tomorrow.
As we hiked through the day, the path wound back and forth around the mountains to give us views of the San Jacinto mountains and Mesa Wind Farm at varying elevations. The desert floor was blooming today, and we saw lots of wildflowers!
We also got a great picture of one of the many lizards we’ve encountered and passed the 200 mile marker!
In the middle of the afternoon, we took a long break at our water source for the day: a drinking fountain labeled as a water faucet with non-potable water. Of course, we filtered it, but the water was as hot as the desert. We miss the cool spring water from the San Jacinto Wilderness!
We walked a few miles from the water source to make our campsite for the night. Our planned campsite was a few miles from the wind farm, so we took care to stake our tent well.
Tomorrow morning, we’ll be hitching a ride into Cabazon to resupply and mail some of our winter gear up trail!
Incredible pictures! Just beautiful.
Beautiful pictures, love reading your blog. Living vicariously through your travels.
Thanks ?
What kind of gators are you wearing in that picture?
We both have dirty girl gaiters. Work great with most trail runners
