Pacific Crest Trail
After several years of planning and preparing, we are finally ready to step out on the Pacific Crest Trail! We’ll be hitting the trail on March 24th at the southern terminus on the Mexican border in Campo California. We’ll post updates here, as often as we are able. Happy Trails!
Day 35 4/28
The forecast called for temps in the 70s so we decided to hike the LA Aquaduct section in the daytime. It's over 17 miles across (normally) hot, windy desert alongside the Los Angeles Aqueduct. After leaving Hiker Town we had to road walk a couple miles to reach the...
Day 34: 4/27/21
This morning we woke up to condensation all over our tent and quilt, so we took a little extra time to dry them off before leaving camp. There was a two lane highway near the trail that we had to cross last night to make camp. A local had seen us camping and brought...
Day 32: 4/25/21
This morning we slept in until 6:30-7am. We had breakfast at the KOA and then decided to hitch to Acton for food. We got a ride from a super nice travel nurse who dropped us off at the Original Acton Market. We were able to get a pretty good resupply and plan out some...
Day 33 4/26/2021
We woke up to a cold and gray morning as we packed up and left Aqua Dulce. The PCT actually cuts through the town so we had to road walk a few miles. Eventually, we were able to hike back up into the hills. We wound our way through the hills passing through areas of...
Day 31 4/24/2021
We slept in a little bit to recover from our night hike adventure but still woke up in time to see a great sunrise. The trail started out in a very overgrown section of previously burned forest. It would stay thorny, brushy and overgrown much of the day. There plenty...
Day 30: 4/23/21
Today, we left Wrightwood around 8am. A trail angel gave us a hitch around the Bobcat Fire closure! However, the ride was over 2 hours long, so we didn't start hiking until 10:30am. We knew we could camp earlier if needed, but we had planned 21.3 miles today! The...
Day 29 4/23/2021
We took a day off in Wrightwood to enjoy the little mountain town and rest up after our biggest mileage stretch so far. We averaged over 20 miles a day during the five days stretch from Big Bear to Wrightwood. The town was very friendly. Mountain Hardware had a hiker...
Day 28: 4/21/21
Today we left camp late around 8:30am; we only had 2 miles to hike to Highway 2 at Inspiration Point to hitch a ride into Wrightwood. Upon exiting our tent we were treated to some amazing views! When we got to the highway we realized it was only used by locals and...
Day 27 4/20/2021
Today was a big day that would see us gain over 5,000 feet in elevation. We started early in an attempt to beat the heat. The trail wound through the hills steadily gaining elevation all morning. We worked our way through another fire damaged section. As we gained...
