Pacific Crest Trail

After several years of planning and preparing, we are finally ready to step out on the Pacific Crest Trail! We’ll be hitting the trail on March 24th at the southern terminus on the Mexican border in Campo California. We’ll post updates here, as often as we are able. Happy Trails!

Day 45 5/8/2021

Woke up to a cold morning in the upper 30s, but the sun coming out and a decent climb out of camp warmed us up. We had to navigate a lot of blow downs on this section. After the climb the trail ran along the side of a high ridge giving us nice views of the mountains...

Day 43 5/6/2021

We stayed in Kernville to resupply and start our planning for the upcoming Sierra section in a few days. Kernville is a nice little town along the banks of the Kern River. There is a lot of rafting services here, and the river sees a lot of activity. While crossing a...

Day 42: 5/5/21

This morning we woke up later around 6am after a fun night of dualing trail magic. Sixes still had his van at camp and offered to make a breakfast of bacon, eggs, smoothies, coffee, & chai tea for all of the hikers. Thanks so much for your generosity, Sixes! After...

Day 41 5/4/2021

We started the day with great views of the pine covered section of the high desert. The pines soon ran out and we quickly transitioned back to true desert terrain. The trail turned to loose sand as it dropped elevation. The vegetation changed from shady pines to scrub...

Day 40: 5/3/21

Today we left camp around 7:30am and preceded to climb for the first several miles. Eventually, much of the trail was covered in fallen trees. Climbing over the trees was tedious. Later in the morning, we passed the 600 mile marker! A few miles from the marker we...

Day 39 5/2/2021

Woke up to a beautiful sunrise over the lower desert. The wind was still whipping over the mountain and would remain strong all day. We saw a small snake laying in the middle of the trail. It looked really flat almost like it was run over. We saw it flick its tongue a...

Day 38: 5/1/21

Day 38: 5/1/21

Today we left Mojave, CA around 9:30am. Mary Helen, the trail angel who had given us a ride into Mojave, have us a ride back to the trail! There were still a few beers in the cooler that Apple Jack left the other day, so we each helped ourselves to one. After hanging...

Day 37 4/30/2021

With a few town chores to get done, we stayed in Mojave for the day. We picked up the replacement sections and tips for my bent and broken trekking poles, resupplied on food and did laundry. We had to get a little creative with a hanger, bear cord and an air...

Day 36: 4/29/21

We left our camp around 7:30am and began climbing out of the cold canyon. Much of the trail was sloped or eroded, but we were able to see lots of wildflowers! After climbing it became apparent that today would contain lots of pointless ups and downs until we reached...
