Pacific Crest Trail
After several years of planning and preparing, we are finally ready to step out on the Pacific Crest Trail! We’ll be hitting the trail on March 24th at the southern terminus on the Mexican border in Campo California. We’ll post updates here, as often as we are able. Happy Trails!
Day 54: 5/17/2021 Happy Birthday Sean!
We woke up still surrounded by snow this morning. We slept in because we barely got any sleep before summiting Mt. Whitney yesterday. Before truly beginning today's hike, we had to cross a dangerous stream. Luckily, the water level was lower than last night, so we...
Day 53 5/16/2021
Today we planned extra mileage to summit Mt Whitney via a side trail off the PCT. At 14,505ft, Mt Whitney is the tallest mountain in the lower 48 states. It would be a 15.2 mile round trip. There was a snow storm forecasted to hit later in the day, so we woke up at...
Day 52: 5/15/2021
This morning we climbed up from Chicken Spring Lake and were able to view the lake for part of the climb. Within a few miles we left Inyo National Forest and crossed into Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. We continued to ascend most of the day. Eventually, we...
Day 50 5/13/21
Our 50th day on the PCT started off cold! We woke up just before dawn to the sound of dozens of Swallows* flying under the foot bridge to deliver food to their nests. * it was not clear whether they were African or European Swallows and we didn't find any coconuts! In...
Day 51: 5/14/2021
This morning we left camp around 7:30am. We hiked through some small ups and downs before descending about a thousand feet. We then proceeded to climb the rest of the day. The first two miles uphill were the steepest part of the ascent. We eventually hiked to some...
Day 49: 5/12/2021
This morning Grumpy Bear's gave us a ride to the trail around 8am. We started hiking on relatively flat land for the first few miles, but hiking with a bear can for the first time was killer! We took a break after a few miles to relax by the Kern River. Sean tried out...
Day 47-48: 5/10-5/11/21
We're taking a few days off in Kennedy Meadows to sort our gear and resupply plan for the Sierra Nevada range. The Sierra section is several hundred miles and is as beautiful as it is remote. We'll post updates as soon as we make it back to civilization. We enjoyed...
Day 46: 5/9/21
We left Fox Mill Spring around 6:45am. We had one last climb and descent today before cruising into Kennedy Meadows. Since Walker Pass, there have been more water sources, and today was no exception! We walked by the Kern River for some time. As we approached Kennedy...
Day 44: 5/7/2021
This morning we grabbed breakfast burritos and coffee from Big Blue Bear before getting a ride from a trail angel out of Kernville to Walker Pass. We reached Walker Pass around 10am and proceeded to climb approximately 2,500 feet. The majority of the afternoon was...
