Pacific Crest Trail
After several years of planning and preparing, we are finally ready to step out on the Pacific Crest Trail! We’ll be hitting the trail on March 24th at the southern terminus on the Mexican border in Campo California. We’ll post updates here, as often as we are able. Happy Trails!
Day 8: 4/1/21
Today we woke up early to walk the few miles of the trail left before Scissors Crossing. The morning was mostly flat and we saw some cool vegetation on the desert floor. We eventually made it to an underpass where there was trail magic but no trail angels present at...
Day 7: 3/31
Woke up to a very cold and windy morning. It was hard to keep our stove burning, so we built a rock wall to shield it a bit. A beautiful sunrise helped offset the wind and cold. And hot coffee didn't hurt either! The trail stayed around 5,000 ft most of the morning...
Day 6: 3/30/2021
Today we left Mt. Laguna lodge around 9-9:30am. We meant to join up with the trail on the other side of town but ended up starting where we left the trail the other day around 41.5 miles. Through most of the day the trail was fairly flat, but there were beautiful...
Day 4 3/28
We woke up before dawn to get an early start on a day that would see us gaining over 2,000 ft of elevation. We worked our way up through the hills passing through brush, bushes and cacti. It's been too cold for most wildlife to be out but we did see this little guy....
Day 5: 3/29/2021
After a poor night's sleep, we decided to take an extra day in Mt. Laguna to rest. We're looking forward to getting back on the trail soon!
Day 3: 3/27
Woke up at 4am to a bright full moon and a frosted tent. Fog had rolled down the mountain and coating everything in moisture. In the middle of the night, the temperature dropped below freezing and everything froze. There was some frozen condensation on the inside of...
Day 2: 3/26/2021
By the morning we had stayed in the tent for about 16 hours because of the rain. We didn't leave camp until 9:20am. The trail started out as a gentle stroll. Eventually, we started the descent into Hauser Creek. There were some pointless ups and downs along the way....
Day 1 3/25
We finally made it to the PCT! It was a cold morning in the upper thirties when we were dropped off at the southern terminus of the trail. We signed the log book and found we were the first to hit the trail today. The monument was right across from the border wall; we...
