Pacific Crest Trail
After several years of planning and preparing, we are finally ready to step out on the Pacific Crest Trail! We’ll be hitting the trail on March 24th at the southern terminus on the Mexican border in Campo California. We’ll post updates here, as often as we are able. Happy Trails!
Day 107: 7/9/21
This morning I woke up and left camp fairly early. I would not reach water until I was almost at camp tonight. I began my morning hiking along a ridge. In between the trees, I could occasionally catch a glimpse of Mount Shasta. After several miles the trail ran near...
Day 106: 7/8/21
I left camp early in the morning to beat the heat. I passed the McCloud River shortly after leaving camp. The river seemed aptly named. I had another ten mile dry stretch today before my next water source. I hiked quickly to try to make mileage before the heat set in....
Day 105: 7/7/21
I had planned on waking up early but slept in and didn't leave camp until 8am. I had a ten mile dry stretch to hike to the next water source. More of the trail was exposed than yesterday morning, but I got to look at lots of conifers and mountains. After walking an...
Day 104: 7/6/21
I woke up early and hiked to Screwdriver Creek; however, there was only water when I got there. On my way there I spotted three deer: a doe and two fawns. One of the fawns posed for a picture. I hiked through the woods most of the morning. Occasionally, the woods...
Day 103: 7/5/21
This morning we went out to breakfast before heading to a coffee shop for a few hours. We got a ride from there to the airport in Redding where I said goodbye to Sean. Our ride then took me to the trailhead near Burney. The trail was sandy and flat. After a few hours...
Sean “The Purge” getting off trail
Unfortunately, my Grandmother's battle with cancer has taken a turn for the worse, and I will be returning home to Ohio. For right now Amy (Ghost Fingers) will stay on trail while I get a feel for how things are going back in Ohio. Amy will continue to create blog...
Day 100: 7/2/21
We woke up early to try and beat the heat. The first few miles of the day flew by as we hiked downhill from a burned area to Hat Creek. Our next water source was about 5 miles down trail at a picnic area. Much of the trail ahead was reported to be exposed. We tried to...
Day 99 7/1/2021
We had a gentle start to the day, with the trail running through large stands of pine trees. We entered Lassen Volcanic National Park mid morning. We took a short side trail to see the Terminal Geyser, which is a geothermal steam vent. It was pretty cool to see and...
Day 98: 6/30/21
We slept in and got a late start out of Chester. We grabbed brunch then hit the trail around noon. Upon reaching the trail we received some trail magic from a very nice woman. The trail had some ups and downs but was relatively flat. The trail climbed about a thousand...
