Today was a 25 mile day full of great views and a lot of wildlife. Started off the day by taking the Dragon Wagon from the Four Pines Hostel, back to the trail.
The trail started with a nice section along a stream before crossing through an active pasture
As we started the climb up to McAfee Knob, we started seeing black snakes on the trail.
We worked our way up to the top, taking pictures off of the ledges overlooking the stunning landscape below.
And of course, took a bunch of pictures off of the iconic cliff at McAfee Knob
After the knob, the trail took us down and across a ridgeline to the other side of the valley to Tinkers Cliffs.
Along the way I found/almost stepped on this little guy
From the cliffs, you could see back towards McAfee knob. Almost hard to believe I was standing there only hours before.
After Tinkers Cliffs, I hiked on towards the next shelter to grab water and a snack before heading on.
I made it to Hay rock just as it was getting dark. With the lights of Daleville shining in the distance, I decided to hike the last 4 miles in the dark, getting to town just before 10pm.
The Howard Johnson Inn had a hiker rate of just $39 so I grabbed room, ordered pizza and knocked out for the night. Probably going to zero tomorrow
