My alarm went off and my first thought was, PANCAKES! I quickly packed up camp and started the couple miles down trail towards town.
On the way down I checked my phone and Mike, who follows me Instagram, saw that I was going to the restaurant and left trail magic!
Breakfast at Timbers was great and the people were very nice. I spent nearly two hours there, eating and resting up before heading back to the trail.
The trail after the restaurant was great, pretty flat for a while.
After a bit of a climb later in the day, I ended up in a really cool stand of Pine trees. The trail was covered in soft pine needles. I walked off the trail for a bit and took a nice break on the shady trees.
In the afternoon, I passed the halfway point!
The trail got a little soupy during the last half of the day. It must have pretty rough trekking in the rain.
I hiked pretty quick the last couple hours to make it down to the Pine Grove Furnace State park. They have a general store where hikers can purchase ice cream for the traditional “Half Gallon Challenge”.
Unfortunately, it turns out they are only open on the weekends this early in the year. I was less than pleased.
I cooked and ate dinner at the state park, then hiked out about a half mile and stealth camped just off the trail under a nice stand of pines.
