Passed a small milestone today, the AT, split apart from the Long Trail that it had followed for the last 100 miles or so.

The trail skirted the edge of Kent Pond and I couldn’t miss the opportunity to do a like fishing. I caught 4 sunfish and 4 largemouth bass in about a half hour before moving on.

Shortly after the pond, I crossed a nice little boardwalk over a marshy area.

The afternoon held several very steep, calf burning climbs. At the top of one, was a small cabin used as a shelter on the AT. Named “The Lookout” after its small viewing platform high atop the roof.

I camped near Winturri Shelter for the evening. There was a good amount of people at the shelter,  a mix of thru hikers, section hikers and weekenders. One of them built a campfire and we all pitched in some firewood and sat around talking for a while.
