Day 86: 6/18/2021

After leaving our camp near Squaw Creek this morning, the trail descended through some rocky terrain with great views.

We then climbed towards Tinker Knob.

We hiked down from Tinker Knob over several miles. Eventually, we came across a snow chute we had to traverse. The snow was slick because of the heat. We heard multiple reports of hikers sliding down the chute that day. Then, we saw a hiker in front of us slide fifty feet down the chute! Luckily, he wasn’t injured and was able to continue hiking. It was sketchy, but we made it safely through the snow.

We hiked down to Donner Ski Ranch for lunch. They gave every thru-hiker a free beer!

After a big lunch we hiked uphill for several miles until we reached Peter Grubb Hut. The hut was closed, so we set up camp nearby.

They don’t have Donner Party lunch specials at the Donner Ski Ranch, do they? Those beers are either mighty big or you guys have shrunk.
