Day 8: 4/1/21

Today we woke up early to walk the few miles of the trail left before Scissors Crossing. The morning was mostly flat and we saw some cool vegetation on the desert floor.

We eventually made it to an underpass where there was trail magic but no trail angels present at the time. Another group of hikers was cooling off in the shade of the underpass when we arrived. After drinking some soda we decided to leave the underpass to hitchhike the 12 miles left to Julian.

After about 45 minutes a couple who was car camping was kind enough to pick us up!

They dropped us off at Mom’s Pies, a store famous for offering free slices of pie to anyone thru-hiking the PCT! We also got ice cream and drinks!

After pie we picked up food for the next few days at the grocery store and visited 2 Foot Adventure, an outdoor gear store in town, for fuel and a new bite valve for my camelback bladder. We also got an awesome deal on lunch!

Around 2pm, a trail angel, Ray, gave us a ride back to Scissors Crossing. Thanks Ray!

We hiked several miles uphill from the crossing and ended our day with some spectacular views!

What KIND of pie?? You can’t just throw the word pie out there and act like it’s a normal thing. Details, please.

    • Sarah

      The queen of pies!

Thanks for sharing all your updates with us! I’m planning on doing the PCT in 2023 – COVID restrictions from Australia make it a little hard to do at the moment – so I’ve been trying to read as many people’s blogs as I can and it’s great to see in real time! Fun fact – your trail angel Ray did the walk with a young woman from Sydney, Aus (Heather) in parts in 2018 and I’ve just finished reading her blog about PCT! So lovely to see he’s now an angel!
