We planned a 17 mile day to end up at a shelter near a pond that had a sandy beach. We planned a 4th of July party complete with a beach  bonfire,  sparklers and some adult beverages we packed out from town.

We started early with a river crossing near camp.

The trail continued to get steeper until we were climbing up rebar handholds up and over rock faces.

The trail was full of mud and rotting footbridges between steep summits.

We made it to the pond only to find it flooded, with just a two foot narrow strip of sand. So we pushed on to the Sabbath Day Pond Leanto.

We ate, drank, lit our sparklers and sang Proud to be an American and the Star Spangled Banner at the top of our lungs into the night.
