Today was really muddy and wet again to start the day.  The trail was still flooded in many places. We had to hike up several miles of trail that better resembled a mountain stream.  The water was cold and after a few minutes, I couldn’t feel my feet. I kept tripping/stubbing my feet on roots and rocks covered by the running water, but couldn’t feel the impact.  I could only tell when I heard my foot hitting something or when I tripped.

Other flat stretches of the trail were full of standing water.

To add to the flooded trail,  the bugs were out in full force.  Whenever you slowed or stopped, they would swarm and bite up any exposed skin.

At lunch I stopped at a shelter and found a large Field and Stream tent. I don’t know who forgot to pack their tent, but I took the opportunity to set it up in the shelter to get away from the bugs while I ate.

Rabbit came down the trail and quickly hopped in the tent to get away from the bugs as well.

After lunch the trail went up to the summit of Glastenbury Mountain. There was a fire tower at the summit offering spectacular views of the surrounding area.

Near the end of the day, I passed a beaver pond and saw a beaver swimming around in front of his lodge.

I camped near Story Spring shelter and was finally forced to break out the bug net.
