Started the day with a hike up Black Mountain. It was a clear morning and you could see all the way back to New York City.
It was hard to capture with a cell phone, you could see it a lot clearer in person.
The terrain was similar to the day before, rolling hills, stony peaks that required scrambling or outright rock climbing and shady meadows in between.
I came to a road crossing late in the morning and found a box “addressed” to me!
Inside was a note, a half bottle of Everclear and two little airplane bottles of rum. This was great timing as I was nearly out of fuel for my stove and was trying to figure out where I could resupply on fuel. Thanks again!
Also, while going through the box, a guy out for a short trip offered me the rest of his food and said he could take the box and empty bottle out when he got picked up. You really meet the nicest people around the trail.
Hiked up Bear Mountain. There were tons of tourists coming out on the trail. There was a parking lot with vending machines on top. I stopped for a quick snack and met a former thru hiker, Guns for Jesus. We talked a bit and he gave me some fruit and a crumb cake.
I worked my way down through the crowds and ended up near a lake. There were a lot of people out having picnics.
Then the trail actually went through a small zoo full of local wildlife.
After the zoo, the trail crossed the Hudson in a large cable bridge.
I ended the day at the Graymoor pavilion and stayed with Discount, Birthday Girl, French Dip and Coco
