We woke up to wind, cold temps and some snow that had blown through the openings in the tarp.

We were all trying to put on our frozen shoes and clothing when a group of ponies wandered up to the shelter.

We spent the morning walking through more wind and snow.  The trail was full of frozen water and mud. Luckily wool socks keep your feet warm when you break through into puddles!

We saw more ponies later in the day.

As cold as it was, seeing the Highlands in the snow and ice was pretty cool. A sight not often seen by thru hikers in April.

Finally we started to climb down from the higher elevations  and the snow began to disappear.

We ended the day at Trimpi shelter. Once again we used a tarp to block off the opening.  This shelter had a fireplace and together with the tarp, it warmed the shelter to a balmy 50 degrees.
