Today is my 100th day on the trail! I was slowed up by weather a bit early on, but overall I’m pretty happy with the pace and progress so far.
It is getting harder and harder to recognize the myself in pictures though!
This was from the first week on the trail:
And this is from the past week:
The trail started off pretty rocky this morning with a lot of small but steep hill climbs. Just when you might need need to stop and rest, the hill would level off.
After the climbs, I crossed several marshy areas on wooden foot bridges
I took a little side trail to Canopus lake and had a cheeseburger for lunch. On the way back to the trail, I lost my footing on a wet boulder and nearly tumbled off the side of the trail. Luckily my trekking pole hung on to a crack in the rock. It bent the pole a little, but kept me on my feet.
There was a nice view after the climb up from the beach, as the weather cleared just enough to see out.
I stopped for the night at the RPH shelter. One of the few enclosed shelters on the trail. It was an old building at one point and there were a half dozen wooden bunks inside.
There was an old water pump, but it had an iron aftertaste to it. The shelter was near a road, so we were able to order pizza. We gave the delivery guy a few extra dollars to pick up a couple gallon jugs of water so we could refill our bottles.
